Once we realize our mistake we must repent and turn away from that sin less we fall into rebellion. You see there are times when we all disobey God, the differentiating factor here is whether that disobedience was intentional or unintentional. If God has made Himself clear to you and you willingly choose to disobey, then you are in rebellion. Likewise, if you did not know at the time the wrong was done but He has since given you opportunity to know the truth through correction, confirmation, and conviction, yet in your pride, you have chosen not to submit and repent, but rather cling to that wrong, then you are in rebellion.
Think of a parent correcting a child, if they have done wrong you are going to be more lenient and understanding in correcting them for accidental mistakes then if they are willfully disobeying your direct commandments to them, or if they refuse to submit to your correction.
Ok, so we understand why God hates rebellion but why would He compare it to witchcraft? This point is ever further clarified as it goes on to say that stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
What is stubbornness, but refusing correction and repentance, what is iniquity, but sin and wickedness, and what is idolatry, but choosing to give your service, obedience, and allegiance to an other god? Is it starting to make since now? Just like Samson it cost Saul everything, his blessings, his calling, his anointing, and eventually his very life. God can only use those whom He can trust to hear His voice, but simply hearing is not enough. We must listen and we must obey, humbling ourselves before Him in true repentance when we have messed up and ever seeking and receiving not only His instructions but also His corrections.
This is required that in doing so, we would be able to walk in total obedience to His will, rather then to find ourselves serving an other spirit and through pride choose to continue doing so. God does not tolerate rebellion, which simplified, is willful disobedience to the voice of God, therefore causing you to willfully follow another voice that is not of God.

Thanks for your help, I was studing the story of Rehoboam and His rebellion, repentance and final submission and the fact that our sin trails us and tries to attach itself back to us time and time again, even if we repent— like Rehoboam, His sin caused a year split between the Northern and Southern kingdoms of Israel and his reign was only 17 years.
Witchcraft is all about power. When Israel demanded the law and later a king, they introduced performance and reward, which triggered politics, the surge for all kinds of power. I Samuel Saul had convinced himself that God would accept an extravagant offering of animal flesh, bestowing on Him great honor and glory for their victory over the Amalekites, in place of his simply doing what He said.
Put another way, the king had prioritized a pious demonstration of worship read, appeasing gift over obedience. Samuel's inspired response is essentially, "Sorry, Saul, but you got it completely backward! As the prophet says, "To obey is better than sacrifice" see Mark God looks more favorably on a person who takes His Word at face value and single-mindedly follows its direction than on someone who blithely excuses his failures and reframes them as "opportunities" to bring God glory.
This latter attitude is perilously close to the apostle Paul's rhetorical question, "Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? The explanation for Samuel's declaration of God's priorities appears in I Samuel "For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft , and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Disobedience to God's commands puts a person on the wrong side of the battle line dividing right from wrong. Such a one may as well have taken up arms against God! His comparison of rebellion to witchcraft can seem strange at first, since insurrection and sorcery appear to have little in common.
However, the comparison is not focused on the kinds of sin they represent but on their magnitude: Rebellion is just as bad as witchcraft. Disregarding God's clear commands is just as spiritually dangerous as getting involved in demonism. In fact, rebellion is one of the demons' great sins. Both rebellion and divination lead a person away from God, and without repentance , open a place for him in the camp of the demons.
