What is the difference between skeletool and skeletool cx

This is probably because the ridges cause the metal to become more thin in those areas. Frankly I'm surprised the Skeletool doesn't have a separate blade of each.

My ancient Gerber Multi-pliers have a separate sheepsfoot serrated and drop point straight edge blade. Looks like the CX uses CM for the blade. It's not 'OMG D2 tool steel!

The counterpoint to that being that the plain-edged HC would be a breeze to sharpen, whereas the CM half-serrated would Pros and cons. It's a pretty fantastic quality product. They switched from a smallish hole to a thumb stud on the blade. And now I understand that my Benchmade knife isn't trying to tell me that it is centimeters long. It's not the best steel in the world anymore, but in the s it was the shit. There's always a chance as with any steel for "fail" in the heat-treat department, but if they've gone the extra mile to get better steel the chances of that become smaller.

If you see "4 xx stainless" it just means "we bought the cheapest steel we could get, pray we didn't cheap out on the heat treat as well. Not sure if any of the big mfgs other than Spyderco or Kershaw are selling any, but the Powdered Metallurgy steels are all great. It's decent stuff. Common knife steels fall along: stainless.

Better than the pot metal in a two dollar tourist trap pocketknife, but not by too much. Buck uses a lot of this. Soft-ish, but it hones nicely and polishes beautifully. Don't get me wrong, it makes for a perfectly serviceable blade at a generally excellent price. Harder than the alloys, to the point that sharpening is noticeably more difficult. Very hard stuff. Not as stainless as others, but still corrosion resistant enough.

Foo help you if you chip it, but you'd almost need to try to do so. Although the Leatherman Skeletol has been released for a couple years it remains to be one of the best all round knives that is bundled with some amazingly useful tools.

Made of high carbon stainless steel these pliers are incredibly strong yet corrosion resistant. Other features include a screwdriver with multiple head options, and the all-important bottle opener combined with a carabineer. The Skeletool also features either a combo serrated-regular knife combo, or a regular straight blade knife depending on which model of Skeletool is selected. Both blade options include the safety blade locking feature.

There are two different versions of the Skeletool, the first one displayed above is the regular stainless steel Skeletool. The regular Skeletool features the combo blade mentioned above.

The other model is the Skeletool CX. Similar to the regular model it features a stainless steel body, although it is painted black with a DLC-coating. Anyways the CM is good alloy. I like a knife that could retain its edge 'better' so i don't have to sharpen it that often.

But in NO means whatsoever I am saying the that steel on the plain Skeletool is not good. It still slice like a dream, even with the factory edge right outta the box. So, if you are more of a Function-over-Form person on a limited budget, get the plain Skeletool.

Else, the Skeletool CX will get you some braggin' rights. ObiHann Loaded Pockets. Joined: Jul 3, Messages: 1, Likes Received: I have a CX and the partially serrated blade is fine for a multitool, but the increase in cost has no increase in performance. Note the addition of a C4 spike instead of the firearm punch.

The plier head also feature the cap crimper. And here are all 3 MUT versions together. The Style CS resembles a miniature Skeletool in shape. In fact, these tools are rather cute all told. As with the naming convention of Leathermans other smaller type tools, the CS stands for Scissors. Hence, the Style CS is a more stylish Micra in some ways.

The following year, Leatherman changed the scissors for a pair of pliers, and called the new version the Style PS. P stands for pliers, S for Scissors. Both tools feature a removable pair of tweezers that slide on the side of the handles.

You can see them nestled just above the miniature carabiner. Note the Style PS does not have a knife blade, making it supposedly more airline travel safe. Now of interest to collectors, the Style CS was produced in a nice variety of painted colours.

Speaking of special runs. Here are two MT. O tools in their presentation metal tins. When ordered, you could specify a specific number. I do not know the production numbers on these. Also in , Leatherman introduced a very small tool simply called a Style. The tool proved to be a bit fiddly, and the nail nick locations only exacerbated the situation.

Consequently, this tool enjoyed a short production run and is now recently discontinued. These came in 4 anodized colours. Red, Black, Pink, and Blue. Of interest to the collector is a special Pink Style with the breast cancer ribbon. This was a series of 3 tools to promote breast cancer awareness, and which Leatherman called their Pink program. Yes, I do have two reds. I was thinking of EDCing one until I found out I couldn't live with the difficulty of tool extraction.

By the way, these all feature removable tweezers. Well that concludes a look at the Skeletool family. As you can see, it is a very diverse family at that. Here is a bonus shot showing the size differences. The Style is half that of the Style CS. Merit Badges. A little Leatherman information. Leatherman series articles. A PE one has been on my want list for awhile now, just haven't pulled the trigger on one.

I do wish they made a BO version of it though. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk. A BO version would be cool. Member Posts: I am elated to see a thread such as this. Finally some love for the Skele.

I feel like the minimalist design is underrated because of the lack of. I EDC this thing everywhere. I even wear it on the couch for the occasional beer. I wish I had known my red Skele was a limited edition and I would've taken better care of it probably. I also own the MUT and I'm in love with both. Anyone know if I can special order the CM blade anywhere to fit onto my Skele? No Life Club Posts: 4, Skeletool from the movie "Oblivion" with Tom Cruise.
